The School of Vocational Studies promotes cross and inter-disciplinary professional development with emphasis on skills and competency-based professional development. The school was the pioneer in training Home economics education and Human nutrition programmes in Uganda.

Academic Departments
The School of Vocational Studies is comprised of four Departments:

Department of Family Life and Consumer Studies
Trains teachers in home economics education at Diploma and Bachelor levels. -
Department of Nutritional Science and Dietetics
Trains nutritionists and dietitians who are needed as frontline workers in addressing the problem of malnutrition. Undergraduate and graduate training programmes are offered in the areas of human nutrition and dietetics. -
Department of Hotel and Institutional Catering
Trains hotel and institutional caterers to support the growing hospitality industry in Uganda and beyond. Diploma and Bachelor level programmes are offered by the Department. -
Department of Cosmetology and Fashion
Trains fashion and apparel designers, and cosmetologists to meet the desired service standards for the budding fashion and cosmetology sector in the country. Diploma and Bachelor level programmes are offered by the Department.

In line with Uganda Vision 2040, the National Development Plan III 2020/2021-2024/2025, and the Kyambogo University motto of promoting knowledge and skills for service, the School of Vocational delivers several specialized professional training opportunities that meet the demands of the labour market and promote inclusive development through job creation and wealth generation in the fields of food and nutrition sciences, dietetics, hospitality, family life and consumer education (home economics), cosmetology and fashion.
